Easter Sunday Prayer
"Do not cling to me ..." John 20:17
Jesus’ words to Mary at the empty tomb is my favorite Easter message, “do not cling to me…” and the way you want me to be, which is comfortable and reminds you of the past you once knew. Do not cling to your version of who I am to be. Do not cling to what once felt easy.
Instead, go and live new because of this experience we have shared, because of the truth now alive in you! Let go of how you wish things could be. Let go of the past, the fear and death's nasty sting. Release your previous ways of thinking. Go! Tell others this truth, “I have something greater for you!”
Powerful God of mercy that makes all things new, rise us with you. Pull us out of our graves of yesterday. Release us into a new existence today…and fill us with the strength to share so that others may live new too! Amen
